Improving Depression Care in Medical Settings: Is Screening the Answer?Depression is a common and disabling condition, and improving depression care is a priority. Solutions that have been proposed include improving the quality of care provided to patients with depression through innovative care management programs and providing care to more patients by screening for depression. Depression screening is controversial, however, and national guidelines differ in whether or not it is recommended. This presentation will address this controversy in light of existing evidence on depression screening, including a discussion of factors that should be, but are not often, considered.
